Made for the old 9th Legion in Sydney. Paint on woolen fabric, commercial fringe, tinned brass on leather dangly bits.

I had some spare blue gaberdine, found the gauntlet pattern in a heraldry book.


Four Apostles gonfanons

Matthew Mark Luke John

Made for the processional Missa Cataractensis, the symbols are for each of the four Evangelists. Mathew was represented by a man with wings, Mark by a lion, Luke by an ox or a calf and John by an eagle. The designs are from the Book of Kells. Paint on silk, leather tabs.
